How are cab fares regulated in Cura\u00e7ao?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In Cura\u00e7ao, cab fares are regulated by the government<\/strong>, which means that there are official maximum fares<\/strong>. Legally, cab drivers cannot charge more than this price to<\/strong> customers. However, they can offer lower<\/strong> fares if they wish. <\/p>\n

Recent changes in pricing policy<\/h3>\n

For a long time, cab drivers affiliated with SINUSTA<\/strong>, an association of cab drivers, agreed among themselves on fixed prices for specific routes, such as trips between Hato airport and the main tourist areas. This is no<\/strong> longer allowed<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

According to the Landsverordening inzake concurrentie<\/strong> (Cura\u00e7ao Competition Act), collective price agreements<\/strong> between cab drivers are not allowed<\/strong>, not even within associations. From now on, each driver must set his fare individually<\/strong>, as long as it does not exceed the government’s maximum limit. <\/p>\n

The competition authority FTAC<\/strong> is monitoring this compliance and may impose penalties or fines if cab drivers do not follow the new guidelines.<\/p>\n
