USE OF MASKS

  • The use of face masks is only mandatory in places where health services are provided: pharmacies, hospitals, medical centers, etc.
  • At the airport, passengers must wear face masks according to the guidelines indicated in each space.
  • In establishments where the 2-meter distance is not possible, you may be required to wear a face mask (e.g., in banks, utility offices, etc.). In this sense, each establishment is autonomous in requiring or not the use of face masks. My advice is to always carry a couple of clean face masks in your bag, in case it is required where you have to go during the day.

DURING THE STAY

  • If while in Curaçao, you or your travel companions have symptoms of COVID-19 (dry cough, fever, tiredness, sore throat, headache, loss of taste or smell) it is your duty to contact the health authority (GGD) by calling 9345 for biosecurity protocol (testing, isolation, etc).
  • In all public spaces on the island you will generally be well seen if you keep a distance of 2 meters from other people. (When waiting in line to pay, walking through the supermarket, etc.)
  • If a traveler tests positive for COVID-19 during his/her stay in Curaçao, he/she will be placed in isolation immediately. This is at your own expense. It is therefore advisable to have travel insurance.

PCR, ANTIGEN, VACCINATION TESTS, VACCINATION CERTIFICATES and vaccination certificates

As of March 10, 2022, it is NOT necessary to present a negative COVID test to enter the island.

If you need to take a COVID test to return to your country, you can take the test at the following locations:

One of the most frequently asked questions among those planning a vacation on the island is: What documents do I need to enter Curaçao?

The answer may seem simple, but every year many travelers face delays, additional questioning, or even denial of entry because they were unaware of some of the requirements set by immigration authorities.

The good news is that, for most Latin American tourists, entering Curaçao is a fairly simple process as long as they have the correct documentation.

In this guide, we’ll explain exactly what documents you need to bring, what you might be asked to show when you arrive at the airport, and how to avoid problems during your trip.

Most importantly: just having a passport isn’t enough

Many travelers believe that all they need to do is buy a plane ticket and travel with their passport.

In fact, immigration officials may request additional documentation to confirm that your visit is for tourism purposes and that you have the necessary funds to support yourself on the island during your stay.

Although they don’t always ask for all the documents, it’s important to be prepared when you travel.

Valid passport

The most important document for entering Curaçao is a valid passport.

Before traveling, check the following carefully:

  • Make sure your passport hasn’t expired.
  • It should be in good condition.
  • It must have pages available for immigration stamps.

If your passport is damaged, torn, or altered, you may encounter problems when boarding a flight or entering the country.

Departure ticket from Curaçao

Immigration authorities usually require proof that you will leave the island at the end of your stay.

For this reason, it is recommended that you travel with:

  • A return ticket to your home country.
  • A ticket to another destination.
  • Confirmed reservation for onward travel.

Traveling with only a one-way ticket may prompt additional questions from immigration officials.

Booking Accommodations

One of the most common requirements is to show where you will be staying during your visit.

These may include:

  • Hotel reservation.
  • Vacation rental.
  • Airbnb.
  • Letter of invitation from a resident.

Bring a digital copy and, if possible, a printed copy.

Digital Boarding Pass (Digital Immigration Card)

Before traveling to Curaçao, you must fill out the digital immigration form.

This form collects basic information about:

  • Personal information.
  • Trip Information.
  • Accommodation address.
  • Check-in and check-out dates.

Although the process is usually quick, it’s a good idea to complete it several days before your trip to avoid last-minute setbacks.

Proof of Financial Resources

The authorities may ask for proof that you have sufficient funds to cover your expenses during your stay.

There is no single amount that applies to all cases.

Some examples of useful documents are:

  • Credit cards.
  • Bank statements.
  • Balance statements.
  • Cash on hand.

Most tourists never have to show this documentation, but it’s a good idea to be prepared.

Travel Insurance: Is It Required?

Currently, health insurance is not usually required for most visitors.

However, it is highly recommended.

A medical emergency abroad can be expensive, and the right insurance can help you avoid significant unexpected expenses.

Do I need a visa to travel to Curaçao?

That depends on your nationality.

Many citizens of Latin America can enter the country as tourists without having to apply for a visa in advance.

However, immigration regulations are subject to change, and it is always advisable to check official sources before traveling.

What happens when you arrive at the airport in Curaçao?

Most travelers go through the immigration process without any major problems.

When you arrive, you’ll usually need to:

  1. Show your passport.
  2. Answer a few basic questions about your trip.
  3. Please indicate where you will be staying.
  4. Please let us know how long you will be staying on the island.

The questions are usually simple and are part of the standard procedure.

Questions Immigration Might Ask

Not all travelers are asked questions, but some of the most common ones are:

  • What is the purpose of your visit?
  • How many days will you be staying in Curaçao?
  • Where will you be staying?
  • Do you have a return ticket?
  • Are you traveling alone or with someone?

Answering clearly and honestly is usually enough.

If you’re staying with family or friends

In this case, it is advisable to have:

  • The full address of where you’ll be staying.
  • Host’s name.
  • Contact phone number.

This will facilitate any verification the authorities may wish to conduct.

Common mistakes that can cause problems

Traveling with a passport that is about to expire

Although it is technically still valid, some airlines may require a minimum validity period.

Not having a reservation for lodging

Even if you plan to decide where to stay once you arrive, it’s a good idea to have an initial reservation.

Buy a one-way ticket only

This often raises additional questions.

Failure to complete the required immigration forms

Many travelers put off this step until the last minute and end up having trouble during check-in.
